The traditional properties of red clover
Red clover has beneficial properties linked to the menopause, countering its discomforts. The unpleasant symptoms of this period in a woman's life, such as hot flushes or dryness of the mucous membranes, are eased. Red clover is generally combined with plants that also have a progesterone-mimetic action (lady's mantle, lemon balm, sarsaparilla, yarrow, chaste tree and others).
An expectorant and soothing action of red clover has also been observed. Traditionally, in China and Russia, herbalists recommend red clover as an expectorant and a draining agent.
Red clover is also said to serve, used externally, as a soothing skin drainer in cases of eczema or psoriasis for example, and also when the eyes are tired.
As regards bone health (osteoporosis) and arterial health, further studies are still needed, as they are for possible anticancer properties.
